Your Thinking Controls Every Outcome in Your Life

A long time ago I memorized Proverbs 23:7, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” When you think about it, that statement is the ultimate no-brainer. Thinking determines outcome more than anything else. Our actions, attitudes, and self awareness all flow from the way we think.

You are stuck in your average or mediocre job role, unfilled, unseen and undervalued at an undesirable pay scale because of how you think…let that sink in. Yes, because of how you think about leadership and job role, you speak from that perspective.

We are stuck with the acceptance that nothing is really different until we think differently.

Years ago I was a part of a bible study group and we discussed 5 terminally self-destructive attitudes by the people of Israel in the Book of Numbers. The attitudes were complaining, coveting, criticizing, doubting and rebelling.

So, how does that impact you? Think about those and how they show up in your profession or the workplace. Which ones have taken over the culture of your workplace? Most importantly, which ones are you guilty of? People are always watching, listening, and observing others. So if your goal is to advance in leadership, which of these do you need to stop?

Challenging and changing the attitude doesn’t address where the attitude came from. Your subconscious mind plays a tremendous role. Our subconscious mind is here to protect us. Ask yourself: What happened in your lifetime that allowed you to adapt one of these 5 behaviors? What is your mind protecting you from?

So, what is the next step? When we address this, your deep subconscious barrier that allows you to take on these terminally ill attitudes that are blocking you from accelerating in your career, you can then receive the skills for thinking differently to clarify and reframe your leadership messaging.

Now, when you speak and your interactions show a new thought process for connection, support and collaboration, either in the organization, on a special project, or during networking, people will be attracted to your leadership, not repelled by your negative display.

Here is a simple 20 minute exercise you can do to begin to unlock and understand how this is impacting you today. Once you complete it, send it in to me using the link below and I will give you direct feedback on your gaps.

I’ll get to the specific exercise in a second but I want to show you what’s waiting for you on the other side of the 20 mins you’ll spend doing it.

When one of my clients, Joe, did this same exercise, he was amazed to realize his own negative self-image was showing up in his leadership. Truthfully, Joe believed that he should have been in a higher position of leadership than where he was. He wanted to provide a higher quality of life for his family. What we uncovered was Joe was coveting titles and the perks of prestige that came with those titles. Because of this mindset, that envious and egotistical spirit showed up in even the smallest of conversations. Yes, Joe’s leadership messaging about himself was a repellant. Once we unlocked all the reasons why he held this disposition that was blocking his advancement, we dove in to help him redefine his leadership presence. He went from being a very handsome guy who was forcing himself on others (which made him feel creepy), to a very handsome guy with genuine charisma that attracted people to him. Joe didn’t have to lose his authenticity and downsize who he is- in fact, he refined it. He’s still a 6 foot 2, well built, good-looking, confident man, except now, he feels approachable and speaks from clarity.

So here’s the exercise. Set a timer for 20 minutes (give yourself more time if you need it but not less- it won’t work if you rush):

  • Describe a life experience that involved changing your mind or perspective.
  • What were the benefits you experienced as a result of changing your mind or perspective?
  • What were some of the negatives that could have happened if you had not changed your mind?
  • Send it to me here using this link, and select “Submit Your Leadership Exercise”.

You are on the verge of your breakthrough!

Your epiphany is HERE!
